I'M IN THE SENATE TO SERVE ABIA STATE, NIGERIA, SAYS SENATOR AKOBUNDU, AS HE CALLS FOR PRAYERS

The Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Austin Akobundu, has said that his interest for contesting the Abia Central Senatorial seat is to serve not only his constituents, but Abia State and Nigeria in general.

The Senator, who spoke in a gala night, held in his honour at Abuja by friends, political associates and Abia indigenes living in the Federal Capital Territory, remarked that he will fight for the common good of all Nigerians even as he stated that his constituents will the major beneficiaries of his programmes.

It will be recalled that Senator Akobundu was sworn in as Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District at the Red Chambers on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

His word, “I’m not going to be a Senator of PDP, or APC, neither am I going to be the Senator of APGA or Labour or even AA; in fact, I’m not going to be the Senator of any political party, but Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

The Senator who had earlier announced that he will not fail to fulfill his five-point agenda, thanked God and his constituents for standing by him throughout the duration of both the election and litigation, adding that he would not have been Senator if God had not intervened in his matter.

“I thank those who stood by me through thick and thin, a lot is expected of me. I thank God that chaperone me; it has not been easy. My first assignment is to ask God why He has chosen me for this. It means there’s something God wants me to do for my constituents, my state and for Nigeria.

“So my job is spiritually is to search and ask God to show me the way to achieve the purpose for which He has done this great thing. I’m trusting in Him and your prayers, they’re going to give me a roadmap to acknowledge that; I’m not afraid and I say do not be afraid, your prayers will suffice.

“We’re in it together and we’ll get the job done. I remember when I left the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP; my people hosted me i.e. the entire Ikwuano LGA. For the first time, all the traditional rulers came together and they gave me a title. Everybody was unsure of what I wanted, but I trusted God.

“People were prodding me to speak about my future ambition and as politicians they wanted to know what I wanted to contest, is it governorship, is the Senate or what…? Today God Almighty has removed every fear and manifested His goodness to me and clearly showed me what He wanted me to be.

“I accept it wholeheartedly as ordained by Him as a divine challenge and I want all of you to join me to thank Him and pray for me as we embark on this journey together. The beginning is now; the real work has started”.
