Commercial
activities almost came to a standstill in Aba on Monday as youths from
the Ngwa ethnic group held a victory rally. The rally tagged "show of
force" was to celebrate the victory of one of Its own, Chimaobi Ebisike
in the Aba federal Constituency bye-election held on Saturday, March 27.
Some federal and state lawmakers from the state as well as high
government officials led a procession through major roads in the Enyimba
city. It terminated at the Aba Town Hall where a large crowd gathered
to hear from their representatives. It was like a mini-carnival as
masquerades entertained the people.
Darlington Nwokocha representing Isiala Ngwa North/South federal Constituency in the House of Representatives fired the first shot by describing the event as a practical demonstration of the unity and love that exist among the Ngwa people.
A
member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Aba North state
Constituency, Aaron Uzodike, described last Saturday's victory by the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an acceptance of Governor Okezie
Ikpeazu's administration and the reaffirmation of the confidence reposed
in him.
The Special
Adviser to the Governor on Speacial Duties, Erondu Uchenna Erondu,
strongly condemned the alleged comment by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu
that the federal government was the one reconstructing roads in Aba and
not the Abia State government. Erondu gave former Governor Uzor Kalu
one week to prove his case or apologize to Abians and the state
Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
Ginger Onwusibe representing Isiala Ngwa North state Constituency in the House of Assembly, also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking
further on the victory rally, the former Transition Committee Chairman
of Aba North local government area, Mr. Charles Esonu- a lawyer said
"the event is to thank Aba people. There has been protest vote against
the PDP because of infrastructural decay. But today, Aba people have
resolved to reciprocate the gesture and the hand of fellowship extended
to them by the leader of the party in the state, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu
who took it upon himself to transform the city.
If you look at all the
nooks and crannies of Aba, the roads are been fixed. This is
unprecendeted and the only thing Aba people can do is to tell him thank
you by voting for PDP in future elections".
